6 Practical Tips for Starting a Blog From Scratch

I am passionate about writing but I write mostly in my personal journal. In the journal, I write about the various ideas and thoughts that fascinate me. Now, I have decided to pursue blogging which was not my preferred choice some 3-4 years ago. It was so because of my perception that I had to shed my originality. Also, at that point of time, I wanted to express myself without getting judged or rejected. But, now I want to express my views on various matters which attract my interest and I want to get feedback from one and all. In life, priorities change over time.

Blogging has presented various learning opportunities to me. It has instilled a lot of energy, passion and enthusiasm in me as it's really fun and enthralling to see your growth by learning new things every now and then. I am sharing my learning from blogging which will help and encourage fellow potential bloggers to come out of their comfort zone and start blogging as a meaningful hobby.

So, please find below the 6 Practical Tips for starting a blog from scratch:

1. Getting Started - If you have a passion for writing and you truly want to start a blog then please start it now. Do not procrastinate. Today is the best day to start blogging. Make conscious efforts to overcome all thoughts are misleading you into believing that you cannot be a blogger. Don't let fear suppress your desire to do something you always wanted to do. Just imagine the thrill of following your passion. If you are passionate about something then put your heart into it and come out with brilliant blog posts. You never know, you may help someone who is in need.

2. Keep going without getting affected by the outcome. Have Patience. Anything worthwhile requires time, effort and dedication. Never expect to be a one stop solution provider for the entire world. Don't get into the number game. It doesn't matter that how many people are visiting your blog. But, it do matter that you leave no stone unturned to delight the visitor. You don't have to do anything more than being passionate about your work.

3. Do blogging as if it's a project - You can consider blogging as a project. Project is a unique, time bound activity. You can make targets for the number of posts you will write in each week or month. Also, you can zero on topics on which you want to write. It will help you to focus and concentrate on your target. Also, you need to optimize and strike a healthy balance between the time you have for blogging, effort you can put into it and the quality of posts that you want to create. Please always keep reminding yourself that blogging is first and foremost about your purpose. So, sticking to the purpose will always keep you motivated and on the track. Then the other most important consideration is the value you can add to the experience of your blog readers.

Always strive to write with passion and create valuable pieces which can benefit someone. It is amazing to know that what you are posting today can also benefit or help someone many years down the line. Like a project, monitor your progress, review your goals, re-read your posts from the perspective from a blog reader and see if you are adding value to their experience or not. If you fail to plan then it means that you are planning to fail. So, build your blog, step by step like an ocean is filled with drops of water. You have to focus on the content. It should be in-line with what you believe and should preferably benefit someone.

4. Be Yourself, Be Focused and Enjoy the journey - While you are pursuing blogging as a meaningful hobby. Be yourself. You are here to satisfy your desire to have a positive impact in the life of others. You have your day-job to pay your bills and get recognition for your work. So, although, we all desire to get our efforts acknowledged. It should not be the goal but a by-product of all your hard work as a Blogger. You must read the learnings from the exemplary book "the Monk who sold his Ferrari". Keep the passion alive. Successful people have one thing in common that they are truly passionate about their work.

5. Let people know that your blog exists - Although, it is not a very important thing while you are building your blog and are creating awesome posts. Rely on word of mouth publicity as a medium of spreading the good work that you are doing. Apart from this, there are various other Digital Marketing Strategies. You can also learn a few things about Search Engine Optimization (SEO) from You tube. Learning about SEO will give you a fair amount of idea about how search engines search for websites/blogs. Good thing is that you can implement many of the suggestions easily but the bad thing is that many websites and blogs are heavily reliant on SEO and are not much focused on the content. This reduces user experience but Google and other search engines continuously evolve their algorithm used for searches to ensure that high value contents are given preference.

There are many people in our network who are reading and writing enthusiast. You should contact them and ask for their feedback. As they are already interested in reading & writing so they will joyfully review your blog and can provide you meaningful insights through their precious feedback. Also, you can share your blog on social media like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, etc to let people in your network know that you are writing. If they like your blog and find it interesting or useful, they will visit again and chances are that they will spread knowledge about your blog to people in their network.

6. Build your reputation - There are so many self proclaimed experts but people want to learn only the best stuff from a reliable source. Hence, you must build your reputation if you want your works to touch as many lives. You can write for various newspapers online or can publish your works on other reputed and more popular blogs as a Guest Author. It will help you develop your reputation as a writer because reputed websites will only publish good articles. Writing as a Guest Author will provide you a bigger platform and more audience. And the most important things are that you must be Reliable and Trustworthy. So, Never Spam - No one loves unsolicited emails.
